In an attempt to catch up on some much-needed sleep and pay some attention to much-needed domestic affairs, I left my work computer at work this weekend. I did some photo printing and almost made it all the way through a post about how, for the first time in a long time, I understand the whole concept of “weekend”. Such concepts are incomprehensible to academics, many of whom have a weekend that extends through the warmest three months of the earth’s rotation around the sun; a perk I sadly couldn’t negotiate while being recruited at my current employer.

T-minus Four Years

Dangerousmeta’s list of quotes relevant to yesterday’s inauguration brings to mind a quote someone emailed me sometime in April of last year. At that time, the elections were just beginning to ramp into mud-slinging mode and those who showed any disdain for the “war against terror” were branded as unpatriotic.

One of the things I’ve wanted to write most about was Tuesday’s 50th anniversary of Edward R.

Apparently the big news from the Super Bowl was that Janet Jackson’s right mammary was exposed to the elements during the halftime show.

Io-way

Just before midnight, Sunday, January 18, 2004 • 4 responses

This post comes to you from the balmy climes of northwestern Illinois. I’m at the farm, where just past noon today, it reached a scorching high of 8.5°F (-13°C).

Perhaps it’s brain freeze, but it occurs to me that tomorrow, on the other side of the Mississippi River, at least some Iowans will be spending their Dr.
