Weapon of choice

The other day I saw Samuel Jackson on television talking about the upcoming Star Wars: Episode II.  I and my friend bundle, upon learning that Mr. Jackson was to appear in Episode I, both agreed that the character Mace Windu was not used to his full potential.  I suppose that in Mace Windu, we were both expecting some kind of combination of Obi-Wan from Star Wars and Jules from Pulp Fiction.

The true power of the force will not be unleashed until Episode III, in which I expect Mace Windu to reveal his secret weapon: the Jedi Bitchslap.  I imagine the dialogue will go something like this: “I’ll show you the dark side of the force, mutha fucka! Don’t make me Jedi Bitchslap you…I’m sorry, did I break your concentration?”

At that point Jar Jar Binks will be beheaded and the Star Wars universe will return to normal.

Thanks for your post on Star Wars - this just lead to a 3 hour tour of the entire Star Wars Official Website - reading all the background details of every story, character, place, technology, etc of Star Wars when I should’ve been studying.

Not in any facetious way - but since you are a Literature major (thus presumably better in Enlgish than most) is it grammatically correct to say, “I and so-and-so,” since you posted, “I and my friend blunder.” The reason I ask is because I’ve always been counseled - that the proper phrasing is “My friend blunder and I.” Unless of course your previous reference was an emulation of Yoda-speak.

Hmm.  I’d first like to point out that I might be a literature graduate student, but that doesn’t mean I’m any good at grammar. wink

Secondly, I think that the convention of saying “my friend and I” as opposed to “I and my friend” has less to do with grammar and more to do with politeness.  But hey, you’re not supposed to begin a sentence with “but” either.

There has to be a way to get Lucas on the Jedi bitchslap idea. I’d love to see it.
