Spring in July

An unseasonably temperate hello from Chicago!
A few things I wasn’t counting on when I decided to come home for a month
- less-than-hell-like temperatures in Chicago during July
- watching the city from above makes me more restless than watching the tree outside my second-floor office at home in Santa Cruz.
Go figure.
The other day I made the requisite pilgrimage to the newly-opened Apple Store on Michigan Avenue. It’s a wonderful space, and the renovations, which include a staircase made of glass, reflect well the design philosophies of the company. There’s a theater upstairs, and for the brief time I was in the store, someone from eMagic was hosting a Q & A session for some of the newer Logic Audio plug-ins. I left before the urge to buy kicked in.
I did pick up an iSight, though, and broadband is being installed on Friday. Previous experiences with video conferencing makes me think that video chats are just practice sessions for funnyface-making. Whatever. I could use the practice, I suppose.
I was a bit overambitious the first day I was here…walking four blocks proved a bit more than I’m capable of. I’ve been taking taxis everywhere, and boy, does that get expensive fast. I think I’ve blown about $65 in cabs in the 2 days. I’d take public transportation, but if I get bumped in a way that causes me to twist, I could end up in the hospital again. So cabs it is.
I’ve been working on some more sections for oculus, and these should go online by the end of the week. I’ll also be adding a section on this page which displays thumbnails for the last several images in gestalt. Also, by popular request, the etherblog preservation society will be returning in the near future. Fun fun fun.
Once I start getting out more, my posts should get more interesting. Shit, with any luck, my life should get more interesting.
