miles to go before I …
Every once in a great while, and only once in a great while, apparently, I remember I have a website.
Since I last wrote, however, I’ve traveled over 3000 miles with two dogs—through forests and plains and mountains and cornfields, hailstorms and tornado watches, past grizzlies and wolves and bison and elk—coming to a full stop at the family farm in northwestern Illinois, where in a mere ninety hours I will be a married man.
That’s right. In perhaps the most tangible example of “fate” I can think of (or, if you rather, the surest sign of the apocalypse), in less than four days I’ll constitute the lesser half of the Nara and Narayan Nayar duo. When Nara is asked if she’ll be taking my last name, she responds, “How could I not?”
And yes, we’re planning on naming future offspring Nana, Raya, and Nnnnnn.
It’ll be a week or so before I make another appearance on this site. I’ve got a lot to do, and I have to get to the barn on time.

Since I’ve gotten about a dozen emails wondering what happened to comments on etherfarm, they’ve been working just fine; I’ve just turned them off for the last few entries.

Congrats! I’m happy that you’ve chosen to start using your name on your web site. It is both scary and empowering.
Have a wonderful wedding day. May the midwest sun shine on you!

i’m so sad that my ginormousity will miss your nuptials. i (we) ‘ll be there in thought and can’t wait to hear the anecdotes. i’m looking for at least one story involving the cultural clash of two plane loads of relatives forced to commune on a farm. another better be a version of “the simple life” staring jon and eric instead of paris hilton. see you when you get home to celebrate again. have fun!

It is not often that I have any sense of clarity about the potential of two people joining their futures.
But you two are different.
I’ve met and been instantly smitten with Nara.
And I’ve been taken by how you add intelligence and presence of the personal to the web.
I look forward to keeping up with your future.
May it easily and laughingly exceed any of our highest anticipations.

N-
sorry we missed the wedding (but only because of the food). with a little luck, you too will understand why traveling with a teething 5-month-old didn’t sound like fun.
