I’m off to see the wizard…

…the wonderful wizard of nerves.

I’d like to say I’m ecstatic that the pain in my back is almost gone. I’d like to say I can now walk without that conspicuous a Frankenstein gait. I’d like to say that putting on socks is not only now in the realm of the possible, it’s well within the boundaries of the almost-comfortable.

There are these shooting pains in my hip and my leg which prevent me from rejoicing over such little victories, though. And I notice that as the back pain dwindles, these shooting pains increase in caliber, so to speak.

So the MRI last week showed my L3-L4 disc, among others, was swollen and was pressing against some nerves in my spine. So The Good Doctor referred me to another Good Doctor…a neurosurgeon. I called the neurosurgeon last Tuesday to make an appointment, and they informed me that the next available appointment was June 24th. After some pleading, I managed to make that June 17th. I was still in a lot of pain at that point, so a month of waiting seemed like a handful of eternities.

Last Friday I get a call saying that I can come in on Monday (today) at 2:45. Apparently the people with whom I scheduled the June 17th appointment were new employees or something like that, and “didn’t have all the information.” Let’s hope the neurosurgeon knows the nervous system better than his new employees know their way around an office calendar.

With any luck, though, the neurosurgeon will be able to plug me into an outlet, hit a button, and reboot my body’s electrical system.

While he’s at it, maybe I can get him to perform a low-level format on my brain.

I read both postings - yes, it sounds like a job for the Norton Disc Doctor.  It’s using that non-ergonomic Apple equipment that has your spine out of kilter.  Join Bill’s minions, and the pain will relocate.
Don’t you wish you were like one of those cartoon characters.  Miss the Road Runner, tumble off the cliff for that four-second fall, pull your parts back together, and get right back to the chase, no MRI needed.
So, wishing you better chances with your back than Bush has with nation building now, in Iraq.
