Be right back…

I need to leave the f@rm for a while, a week or two at most. I’m scheduled to have surgery next week and I’m really sick of posting about my back problems. Unfortunately, there isn’t much else going on with me right now.

I’m hopeful that this will change in the very near future.

I’ve got a handful of things planned for etherf@rm when I return. I’ll see you then.

You know, I used to think all those back stories old men spent hours on end talking about were boring as hell. Until at least I got my own back problems. Now I too can go on and on ad infinitum about every possible aspect and dimension concerning the anatomy of the back, the intricacy of the verterbrae, etc. Great stuff.

Well.  I looked at those hay bales, and thought, I hope Res remembers to bring an extra roll of baling wire when he goes into the hospital.  Don’t want to run out, half way through things, do we?  Anyway, look on the bright side - look at your surgery as getting a chance to spend time with somebody who actually does something useful and helpful, rather than having to spend the same amount of time with John Ashcroft.

As an old pro at back surgeries, let me share a few tips:

1) If they offer to use the scented gas kind of anesthesia to knock you out, don’t select a flavor you’re likely to encounter again.  I chose watermelon 8 or 9 years ago and to this day can’t touch a watermelon Jolly Rancher.

2) Be sure you clean out your bowels thoroughly before surgery, because I can guarantee that the last thing you’re going to feel like doing the next day is taking a poo.

3) After the surgery, don’t take too many pain killers; the more obvious it is to the people around you that you’re in pain, the nicer they’ll be to you.

That said, I hope it goes smoothly and that you recover well.  Good luck!

Go a step at a time.  For openers, don’t croak on the operating table.  From there on, good luck and freedom from pain, over a long and happy life.
