This is a super-easy recipe with no crust to bother with.

  • 5-6 medium apples (Jonathon, Cortland, Golden Delicious)
  • 1 T sugar
  • 1 T cinnamon
  • 3/4 C melted butter
  • 1 C sugar
  • 1 C flour
  • 1 egg
  • pinch salt
  • sprinkle of vanilla
  1. Core and slice apples
  2. Fill 9 or 10 inch pie plate 2/3 full of apples
  3. Sprinkle with T each of sugar and cinnamon
  4. Combine remaining ingredients
  5. Pour over apples
  6. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes
  7. Serve hot or cold

This topping/crust is to die for.  I will never use another recipe for Swedish apple pie again!  I do go a lazy way with canned fried apples however.  I use fried apples since the usual pie filling has more filling than fruit it seems… and fried apples have perfect pie tartness.  Great recipe here smile

I have made this with peaches instead of apples and get rave reviews.

I have been making this recipe for over 35 years & it never fails to come out excellent.  I add a cup of chopped walnuts to the topping & the bumps & humps it gives to the pie is incredible.
